Pandas 3 compatibility

Just to get ahead of it, Pandas 3 nightly builds are at:

pip install --pre --extra-index https://pypi.anaconda.org/scientific-python-nightly-wheels/simple pandas

Once #175 is in I'll add 3 to here and report back:

but anecdotally on my project I'm using pandas == 3.0.0.dev0+2094 and all seems pretty good ✅

Closing as resolved. Pandas 3 support was added in PR #221, which updated the dependency spec to pandas>=2.0.0,<4.0.0 and added pandas 3.x to the CI test matrix with any known incompatibilities marked as expected failures. Thanks @davetapley for flagging this early!
