Backed up gps.conf doesn't hash identically to original after restoration

The backup gps.conf is not identical to the original file. This is evident during OTA updates (in my case 4.4.2 -> 4.4.3), where the update process fails due to a different checksum on the gps.conf restored by FasterGPS.

I am having the same exact issue. I cannot update my Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 because of the gps.conf. I have root and have tried OTA & manual update via CWM. OTA just gives an "error" screen after reboot and CWM. Specifically, CWM says: " "/system/etc/gps.conf has unexpected contents " At this point I'm desperate to figure out how to fix this problem and update my android. Please help!

You can extract it from the official 4.4.2 image: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#hammerheadktu84m

Or just flash the 4.4.2 system.img, both will restore the original file.

Thank you for the prompt response.

I'm far from an expert so I just need a little bit more help if you don't mind. I downloaded the 4.4.2 from the link you provided and I pulled system.img from that. I suppose I would flash the file via fastboot. I found this tutorial http://blog.syedgakbar.com/2013/02/android-installing-system-images-using-flashboot/

I just want to be sure I'm not making a mistake before I go ahead and do that.

Take a backup first. I resolved the issue by simply copying the gps.conf file from the image to my device. The method you posted for flashing system.img should work too, but I haven't tested this.
