gitsage is a tool that helps you understand and manage your code easily. It acts like a smart helper that knows your entire codebase. This tool uses advanced features from GitHub and AI to answer questions about your code. It works well with GitHub Copilot, making coding and exploring your projects simpler.
You do not need coding skills to use gitsage. It offers a clear way to ask questions about your code and get direct answers.
Before you start, please make sure your computer meets these basics:
- Windows 10 or newer (64-bit)
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- Around 200 MB of free space for software and data
- Stable internet connection (required to use AI features)
- A GitHub account for full access (free account works)
These requirements ensure the app runs smoothly.
To use gitsage, you need to download it first. Please follow the steps below carefully.
Go to the official releases page where the latest version is kept:
Click this link or the badges at the top to open the download page.
Once you are on the release page:
- Look for the file that ends with
.exe. This is the Windows installer. - Click the
.exefile to start downloading. - Wait for the download to finish.
After downloading the .exe file, follow these instructions:
- Find the downloaded file, usually in your
Downloadsfolder. - Double-click the
.exefile to run the installer. - Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Choose the installation folder or accept the default one.
- Wait for the installation to complete.
- When done, you can let the installer create a shortcut on your desktop.
Now you can start using gitsage:
- Find the gitsage icon on your desktop or in your Start menu.
- Double-click the icon to open the app.
- When it opens, you may be asked to sign in with your GitHub account. This is needed to let gitsage access your repositories.
- Follow the login prompts to connect your GitHub.
- After logging in, you can start asking questions about your codebase.
gitsage works like a chat with your code. You type questions or keywords, and it gives detailed answers from your repositories.
Here are some example questions you can ask:
- "What does the login function do?"
- "Show me the last changes in the project."
- "How many contributors worked on the main app?"
- "Explain the structure of the user database code."
You can also connect gitsage with GitHub Copilot Extension, which helps you write code faster by suggesting relevant snippets based on your codebase knowledge.
